Money Can’t buy us happiness

Really. Okay, wag magagalit. I agree we all need money for something! Today I am broke. Coming from vacation, men! I only made sure that I had enough to keep me going until the next payday. Dang! So this is how it goes.

It’s Dubai Shopping Festival! And I cannot shop because I am kaput! heheh. Kaya lang I was browsing the net kanina, as usual bored to the max. Kailan ba hindi dito sa trabaho ko? At ito ang nakita ko:

Karl Rabeder grew up poor and thought that life would be wonderful if he had money. But when he got rich, Karl discovered that he was unhappy … so he decided to give away every penny of his £3 million fortune:

“My idea is to have nothing left. Absolutely nothing,” he told The Daily Telegraph. “Money is counterproductive – it prevents happiness to come.”

Instead, he will move out of his luxury Alpine retreat into a small wooden hut in the mountains or a simple bedsit in Innsbruck.

His entire proceeds are going to charities he set up in Central and Latin America, but he will not even take a salary from these.

“For a long time I believed that more wealth and luxury automatically meant more happiness,” he said. “I come from a very poor family where the rules were to work more to achieve more material things, and I applied this for many years,” said Mr Rabeder.

But over time, he had another, conflicting feeling.

“More and more I heard the words: ‘Stop what you are doing now – all this luxury and consumerism – and start your real life’,” he said. “I had the feeling I was working as a slave for things that I did not wish for or need. I have the feeling that there are lot of people doing the same thing.”

So, now, tell me that it cannot be done? Walang pera? hmmm… maybe we’re happier with less of it.

Real-Life Sleeping Beauty

As a kid my parents always tell me to go to sleep early or take the afternoon nap.  I hated it!  Every kid hated being sent to sleep early especially when an interesting show is on TV.  Or in the afternoons when all of your playmates get to go out and play outside.  And here goes your mom or dad scolding you, go to sleep or you won’t grow any taller. Well, I slept those years and yet I haven’t gotten any taller! lol.

SO much for that, it just caught my attention on this very rare disorder called Kleine- Levin Syndrome.  It’s really crazy when one has this.

Challenge

I have promised to stay for the next 21 months, well, that’s some 20 months and about 2 weeks to go.

After the quick and happy vacation at home last month and experiencing how to become a mommy once more, I promised Andy I will just finish the contract.  After that, I will be home with her.

That is a challenge for me.  Challenge because for most of us, for everyone for that matter, 21 months is simply too short.  Short when you think of saving “for the future”.  Short when you think about all the places you want to go to, plus the challenge of how to be frugal in your living while trying to enjoy the sights in this bustling metropolis.

The challenge is harder when you know that your daughter has this concept that, I already know who mommy is, and who mama is.  There is a difference.  And that I like mommy to be here more than anything else.

Aww, heartbreaking for me!  It always is.  Life is not fair, I am resigned to that fact.  Ahh….  I want to scream!

Good thing I get a little perk here at work.  Pwede akong makinig sa radyo ng Pilipinas! Yahoo.   I often tune in to DWRT. hehehe.  Makes life a bit bearable.

Taebo

I gained 10lbs in Dubai.  That’s a fact.  There was a study here before that was entitled “Dubai Kilo”.  It simply stated that one who moves to Dubai to work/ live would easily gain a kilo.  Why so?  Life here is so sedentary.  Yes we do a lot of walking.  To and from the bus stops even 10-15 minute walk to the office is a norm however it is not sufficient with the amount of food/ calorie you take in.  It simply isnt!

When I went to see my OB-Gyn back home she was pretty surprised with the 10lbs I gained.   I was embarrassed.  And honestly I am also ashamed of myself because I could not wear most of the pants I left home.  So when I came back to Dubai, I promised to shed some of the weight.

Today I began the journey.  I went to the gym and prepared to reduce the food intake.  Even the coffee and sugar.

It would not be easy but It is for me.  I have vowed to go back to 120lbs. And be more fit.  Good luck to me! :)
