I was introduced to the Linux world back in 2006 when there was intense pressure to buy licensed software, and the Piracy crackdown in the Philippines was at it’s peak. I am not implying that it isn’t now.
I saw, Suse (read: sue-see), Knoppix (i think), and Ubuntu. Suse and Knoppix were initially rolled out to different users who does not really need the proprietary MS programs. A lot of my colleagues then were complaining about how difficult it was to run the Linux based system (if it is how it is called!), I was looking at them and secretly hoping that I, too, would be given the chance to test.
Then the company began purchasing MS Windows for almost all the staff, hence, they uninstalled the linux system.
2007. One of my staff resigned, I had an extra desktop at the office. The IT guy suggested I try Ubuntu. Says, it’s good and very user-friendly, of course he was trying to convince me to use it (ok, i am imagining things!). I tried. I really did! It was both easy and difficult as I had to learn to go to the terminal in order to install things- network printers, shared folders.
It was just a fling! I had to give up the desktop unit. I went back to Win xp.
2009- I was curious with my laptop Drew. It came with Ubuntu 8.10 and not the usual Windows. However, my flatmates are mostly IT guys who had access to windows installers, so I had them installed with Windows 7. Mind you, it’s fast. But curiosity got me. I tried reading about Ubuntu once more. Now, I am quite hooked.
I am still doing dual boot as I begin exploring Ubuntu. I have several issues now, I am yet to install the wireless driver- the installation of 9.10 didn’t detect my wireless modem.
I’ll try to make one special page/blog about my Ubuntu quest.
So there. This is what’s keeping me busy everyday!
Lately it has been an up and down battle for me. Most probably because I so miss my girl. I cannot make up my mind on whether to finally go home or not when my contract ends. Personally, if it were only me, I may not. But my daughter is in the picture.
I have been praying a lot lately. Well, praying in my own way. And then God seem to have heard me and gave me this song. I know that I know that I know that in everything, God’s hands is constantly guiding me in everything that I do.
It’s all over the news. At 3:45AM (Chile Time) , a massive quake has struck Maule, an area southwest of Santiago in Chile.
Let us all pray for the safety of the people in that country as well as the people in the nearby cities and countries as well as there have been several information that the quake me trigger tsunami around the world.
You can check out CNN.com for more information or your favorite news agency, surely they too are carrying the news.
I was really bored the last three months here. When I came back from vacation, I thought that I might be counting, literally, the days to pass. I even opened myself to accept blog/article writing. Really!
So there I was, sitting (or lying down) and telling my friend how much time I spend idly at the office.
And then one day, my colleague who is assigned at the site came down with some sort of stomach flu. I had to pinch-hit for her. I said to myself, now this is work! It was too much, really!
I suddenly found myself twice a week assigned at site now. Phew! Challenging, in the sense that all the action’s there! Maybe I’ll post some more about my work here.
Now, I am too tired… I just came from the construction. haaay.
Let us paint the city red! yey! It is the time of the year when the people who are in love, gets more in-love or they feel like it. And those who were left out, well… better luck next year.
I am Monique. I am definitely a newbie when it comes to this. Blogging I mean. I have been introduced to blogging for just over a year so there.
